Participation in the Get Up and READ Passport Activities is strictly VOLUNTARY.  These activities are designed to give students of Miami-Dade County Public Schools the opportunity to read books, discuss books, and attend structured events centered on reading for pleasure.  The bonus of winning prizes is an incentive that was added to help students enjoy the journey into reading even more.

An integral part of this journey is the idea that students will have the opportunity to share their opinions about the books they are reading.  Miami-Dade County Public Schools does not endorse one book over another.  We simply want students to increase their recreational reading.

The National Endowment of the Arts latest report, To Read or Not to Read shows startling statistics on the decline of reading for pleasure, especially among those in the teens and early adult years.  This campaign seeks to change this trend in Miami-Dade County.  We encourage students, teachers, administrators, staff and the community of Miami-Dade County to participate by starting or participating in book clubs all over our fair city.
